  • “If you knew me really well, you’d know …”

This prompt is fantastic for peeling back the layers. Instead of just listing facts about yourself, it forces you to think about the deeper truths. 

  • What are the things you rarely share?
  • What brings you secret joy or quiet stress?
  • What are your secret dreams or aspirations that you haven’t told anyone?
  • What’s a fear you carry that most people wouldn’t guess?
  • What makes you feel truly alive or deeply at peace?
  • What’s a misconception people often have about you?

This prompt can help connect you with your inner world and acknowledge aspects of yourself that may not always be visible to others, or even to yourself. 

  • “Dear past self …”

This can be a powerful way to help you tap into your growth and offer yourself some compassion for the journey you’ve had. Imagine yourself five or 10 years ago. 

  • What advice would you, with all of your current wisdom, give to your past self?
  • What do you want your past self to remember?
  • What lessons have you learned since then?
  • What challenges did you overcome that your past self may be worrying about?
  • What are you grateful for that your past self couldn’t see yet?
  • What encouraging words does your past self need to hear the most right now?

Writing to your past self can help you recognize how far you’ve come and remind you of your inherent strength and resilience. It’s like you’re sending your past self a little beacon of hope from the present. 

  • “What truly drains me vs. what truly energizes me …”

It can be easy to shift into autopilot and go through life doing things just because we should. This prompt is about getting really honest about what fills your cup and what empties it. Understanding what drains your energy and what boosts it is essential for designing a life that feels more balanced and fulfilling. 

  • Things that genuinely drain your energy — Be specific. Is it certain tasks, certain people, certain environments, or certain thoughts? Get it out on paper. 
  • Things that genuinely energize me — Again, be specific. Is it a hobby, time outside, a particular type of conversation, your go-to person, or a quiet moment? Find it and use it. 

After writing what drains your energy and what boosts it, reflect on what you can do to reduce the things that drain you and increase the things that boost you. Think about the small changes you can make in the coming week to help. This can help you gain clarity on where your energy is spent and how you can redirect it for more well-being. 

  • “My comfort zone and beyond …”

Your comfort zone is your safe space, but it can also limit your growth. This prompt encourages you to think about where you feel most at ease, and then think about where you may want to venture out. It’s not about making a sudden jump, but taking small, intentional steps. 

  • What does my comfort zone feel like? What activities, people and situations are in this zone?
  • What’s one small step I can take just outside of my comfort zone? What’s something that feels a little scary but also exciting?
  • What would I gain if I took that step?

This prompt can help you identify areas for personal growth and encourages you to take brave, yet manageable, approaches to trying new things. 

  • “What I need most right now …”

In our busy lives, we often put other people’s needs ahead of our own. This prompt is a gentle invitation to take a minute and ask yourself what you truly need in this very moment: emotionally, physically, mentally or spiritually. Be honest and kind to yourself. 

  • How would acknowledging this need change my next few hours or days?
  • What’s something small I can do to meet this need?
  • What fears or beliefs are stopping me from giving myself what I need?

This prompt encourages you to practice self-compassion and prioritize your own well-being. It’s a strong and gentle reminder that it’s OK, and even necessary, to tend to your own needs.
