Most people who have a mental health condition will need varying levels of support throughout their lifetime. When symptoms are at their most severe, people may need help with daily routines and supervision for their safety. Residential Treatment Centers (RTCs) provide comprehensive treatment in a tranquil yet structured environment. This option is an “inpatient treatment” in that people stay overnight and receive 24-hour nursing care. However, RTCs are quite a bit more nurturing and intimate than a psychiatric hospital.
At Lightfully’s RTCs, you can receive personalized treatments that help you not only recover, but also build new, healthier habits.
In this article, we’ll talk about the inpatient services we provide as part of our Residential Treatment programs.
Lightfully’s Residential Treatment approach
Residential Treatment is the first step for many of our clients who are dealing with serious mental health conditions. We see our clients as people first. Our licensed clinicians use our Precision Care Model (PCM) to plan treatment experiences that support the lives they want to live. Each person’s treatment plan will include a unique combination of evidence-based treatments built just for them. Along with treating symptoms, we help people learn ways to manage their thoughts, feelings, behaviors and relationships.
When the client is able to care for themselves safely at home, we support them throughout their transition to independent living. They can “step down” to our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) or Virtual PHP and lower levels of treatment.
Core therapeutic services in Residential Treatment
Each person in Residential Treatment receives one-on-one psychotherapy with an individual therapist. We also incorporate group and family therapies to help them connect with others and build a strong support system. Clients learn that their mental health is not something they have to manage on their own. They learn to care for themselves effectively while receiving support from others and asking for help when needed.
Here’s a bit more about each of the core services included in Residential Treatment:
- Individual therapy sessions — Clients in Residential Treatment meet with their primary therapist three times a week. This allows for a high level of personalization and creates some continuity in the treatment process.
- Group therapy sessions — Group sessions add a dimension of community and peer support to Residential Treatment. Clients get a richer experience by processing what they’re going through and learning new skills alongside others. Hearing other people’s stories can also provide a sense of hope.
- Psychiatric services — Medication is often necessary to help manage severe symptoms. Lightfully RTCs are a peaceful environment where people have a lot of support while they find medications that work for them. Staff psychiatrists are available for weekly sessions with clients who need medication management. RTCs also have 24-hour nursing services.
- Family involvement — Building a strong support network outside of treatment is crucial for long-term mental wellness. Residential Treatment includes family therapy sessions where loved ones can learn about the client’s condition and the most helpful ways to support them.
Therapeutic approaches used at Lightfully
Residential Treatment is made up of specialized treatment modalities that provide different benefits. Clients will receive treatments that target their specific challenges in individual therapy. During group sessions, they’ll process different aspects of their experiences and work on coping skills.
Our licensed clinicians use these approaches to create individual treatment experiences:
- Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) — CBT is a simple yet versatile approach that helps with many different conditions. The therapist helps the person see how their thoughts, feelings and behaviors affect each other. This way, they can choose more helpful ways to respond.
- Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) — DBT is about finding balance in challenging situations and learning how to regulate one’s emotions. Clients will learn about skills in a group setting and try them out to see what works best.
- Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) — In ACT, clients learn to accept things they cannot change. They also work on ways they can stay grounded and commit to living by their values.
