We understand that as parents, you know your teen better than almost anyone else. LBH encourages family to be part of the treatment process. In fact, we believe parents play an integral role in their child’s healing journey. Teens today are facing a collective mental health crisis that’s been growing since before the coronavirus pandemic. Supporting your teen through this process can help your family move forward as one unit toward healing and mental wellness.
Looking at social, emotional and cognitive challenges from a mental health perspective is still new to many of the families we serve. That’s OK! One of our guiding values is appreciating beauty while accepting imperfection — or, in Japanese, wabi sabi. There’s a good chance you’ll learn some new skills and gain insight into your own relationships.
We’ve created this guide for our Lightfully Teen services to answer some of those questions. We show you our kind and compassionate approach to primary mental health care.

What is Lightfully Teen’s guiding treatment philosophy?
Our vision and north star is that each person in our Teen treatment community is seen, heard and valued as their authentic selves. We take care of ourselves and one another, so that we may all LIGHT, fully.
How are treatment decisions made?
Our licensed clinicians use a holistic and whole-person-centered clinical model called process-based therapy (PBT). We treat people, not just conditions. We support the core processes we all need to live our fullest and healthiest lives. By collaborating with you and your teen, the clinicians will help your teen receive evidence-based treatment. It’s chosen specifically to help them through their current situation. It will also help them develop skills they’ll need to manage their thoughts, emotions, behaviors and relationships long into the future.
What conditions does Lightfully Teen treat?
Individual experiences are unique and people are at their best when they can be their authentic selves. That’s why addressing a teen’s specific mental health condition symptoms can help them be the best version of themselves. Our licensed clinicians have experience treating teens with a wide range of mental health conditions.
At Lightfully Teen, we support teenagers struggling with a range of mental health disorders and challenges, including:
- Major depressive disorder (MDD)

Can I participate in my teen’s treatment?
We welcome and encourage you to participate in your teen’s treatment! Lightfully Teen programs incorporate several opportunities for parents, caregivers and family members to get involved with their teen’s care. This can include structured family therapy sessions and psychoeducation about your teen’s disorders. There are also support groups for families helping their teens along their mental health journey.
Will my teen be able to keep up with their schoolwork during treatment?
Absolutely. Education is a critical component of a maturing teen’s overall wellness, and the classroom is often a place where mental health symptoms come to the surface. Each level of care has certified teachers present to help teens continue their education during treatment. Your teen will learn skills in treatment that help them build confidence and self-efficacy for a bright academic future.
What levels of treatment are available?
The treatment options we offer are more comprehensive and interactive than outpatient therapy. Lightfully offers teen programming at three levels of care. These treatment offerings provide more structured, comprehensive support than is typically available via traditional outpatient therapy alone.
Each client’s treatment plan is tailored to meet their unique needs and challenges. Clients benefit from a multidimensional therapeutic approach that includes individual sessions with a primary therapist, family therapy sessions, support groups, Safe & Sound Emotion Regulation sessions, monthly meetings with your teen’s treatment team and sessions with a staff psychiatrist as needed.
Lightfully Teen offers programming through the following levels of care:
- Residential Treatment (RTC) — Our Residential Treatment Centers are beautiful, tranquil home environments where your teen can get 24-hour care for their particular mental health disorder and distress. Your teen will go on weekly outings to help them implement and practice the skills they are learning.
- Partial Hospitalization (PHP) — Our Partial Hospitalization Program provides full days of treatment for teens who can commute to sessions and go home at night. It includes up to seven hours of daily programming, daily group sessions and Safe & Sound Emotion Regulation sessions.
- Intensive Outpatient (IOP) — Our Intensive Outpatient Program provides similar treatment to Partial Hospitalization, in three- to six-hour sessions. Teens in an IOP get more opportunities to practice their new skills in familiar environments.
Does Lightfully Teen accept insurance?
Yes, we accept most major insurance plans. We’ll contact your insurance provider to see what benefits are covered by your plan. See our Admissions page for a full list of the insurance carriers we work with.
What else should I know about Lightfully Teen?
Lightfully’s Teen programs extend far beyond the four walls of treatment. True healing happens when young people engage in activities that help them feel a meaningful connection with their communities and the world. We offer daily outing opportunities and extended weekend off-site activities to stimulate and engage our clients.
